Cedarcrest Middle School

Summer Math Program

Dear Parents and Guardians of Cedarcrest students,

Summer math is a valuable opportunity for students to continue their learning over the summer and avoid learning loss. It also provides an opportunity for students to maintain their skills and come prepared to enter into the next year’s math class. Our summer math program will use a website called IXL. IXL is a comprehensive math and language arts review site with an unlimited number of practice questions in thousands of skills – all of which are aligned to state standards. A brief parent intro to IXL can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUF8AJY436k.

Students in every grade are assigned 8 hours of math skill practice within IXL over the summer. This practice will provide valuable information to the student’s teacher as we begin next school year. It will also give your student the opportunity to gain familiarity with a website we will continue to use throughout the school year.

To get your child started on your home computer, follow these steps:

  1. Go to www/ixl.com/signin/cedarcrestms
  2. Your child will receive a username and password.

Username = first initial + last name (don’t include hyphens)

Password = lunch number

  1. Enter that information in the upper right hand corner and click the button to sign in.
  2. Click on Math at the top of the page and navigate to your child’s grade level.
  3. Select a skill to practice from the list of skills in your current grade level and click the link to begin. You can also place your mouse over any skill to see a sample question.

A brief parent intro to IXL can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUF8AJY436k.

To support students without a home computer we will be opening our school on  Wednesdays on June 29, July 13, 20, & 27 from 10 am to 12 pm and have a math teacher available to work with students and supervise the computer lab.  We hope that if you are unable to access the website from home you will be able to use our open lab times.

It is our hope that students will find this to be a valuable opportunity. Thank you for your support!
